THIS MONTH!

With Our Special Guest, Dr. Dodgen Swanson

Date: December 17 | 1 pm CST

Dementia isn’t just a clinical diagnosis — it’s a lived experience that touches residents, families, staff, and the entire senior living ecosystem. As prevalence grows and acuity rises, communities are being asked to do more than manage symptoms. They’re being asked to rethink how they support brain health, quality of life, and meaningful daily living.

In this Senior Living Empower Hour, we’re joined by pioneer and maverick Dr. Dodgen Swanson to explore non‑pharmacologic and holistic strategies that can complement traditional medical care for residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Drawing from emerging research and practical experience, Dr. Swanson will explore how sleep, movement, spinal health, nutrition, the gut–brain connection, and other lifestyle factors may influence cognitive function and overall well‑being.

While this session will touch on the potential role of chiropractic care within a conservative management plan, the focus is broader: how senior living leaders, clinicians, risk managers, and insurers can thoughtfully integrate whole‑person, evidence‑informed approaches into dementia care — in ways that align with safety, regulation, and resident goals of care.

We’ll also unpack several “surprising” aspects of dementia science — including what we’re learning about sleep as brain “housekeeping,” how the microbiome may shape cognition and mood, and why lifestyle and environment matter alongside genetics — and consider what they mean for program design, staffing, family communication, and risk mitigation.

What You’ll Learn

Differentiate key dementia profiles

Consider conservative and holistic interventions in a systems framework

Evaluate non‑pharmacologic strategies for quality of life

Translate emerging science into operational decisions
