The Convergence Era

What We Wish We’d Known Sooner: Caregiver Support in the Convergence Era

September 23rd, 2026 at 1PM CST

Every resident living with dementia arrives with a caregiver beside them, a daughter who has been managing medications for three years, a spouse who has stopped sleeping through the night, a son who is quietly grieving a parent who is still alive. And inside our communities, professional caregivers carry a version of that same weight, shift after shift. In the Convergence Era, the caregiver is where everything meets: clinical care, family communication, customer experience, staff retention, and risk. When caregivers are depleted, every one of those systems feels it.

In this session of the Senior Living Empower Hour, Rebecca Adelman, Esq. welcomes Debbie Compton, founder of The Purple Vine, internationally bestselling author, and award-winning caregiving expert. Debbie left a corporate career to become a full-time caregiver for her parents and mother-in-law, all living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, and turned that experience into a mission of equipping caregivers with practical tools, honest encouragement, and permission to take care of themselves. Through coaching, courses, and her acclaimed book series The Caregiver’s Advocate, she has become a trusted voice for families and professionals who are running on empty and don’t know what to do about it.

Together, Rebecca and Debbie will explore what burnout actually looks like before it becomes a crisis, how caregiver stress quietly shapes family communication, complaints, and litigation exposure, and what senior living leaders can do to build genuine caregiver support into their operations — not as an amenity, but as a risk management and retention strategy. Attendees will leave with concrete, usable tools and a clearer understanding of why supporting the caregiver is inseparable from supporting the resident.
