As the population across the country ages, assisted living is becoming the community of choice for aging in place. Resident care litigation has been emerging with more frequency as the mission and vision of assisted living communities evolve. Person-centered care is a central philosophical aim of the assisted living movement. As in nursing homes, accidents or clinical problems at assisted living centers can translate into liabilities. Many of the losses that drive claims occur during transitions in care from the home to the hospital to assisted living/memory care and to skilled nursing.
